Assistant/Associate Director of Career Development, Private Sector

About the role

The Assistant/Associate Director for Career Development, Private Sector (AD) provides expert career counseling to UCI Law's 500 J.D. students, particularly those interested in private sector legal careers.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes contacts in the private sector legal community to provide individualized career counseling to J.D. students seeking law clerk and summer associate positions, or post-graduate careers in the private sector.
• Maintains and enhances existing relationships with private sector legal professionals and establishes new connections.
• Participates in local and national associations like the National Association of Law Placement, San Diego Legal Recruitment Association, Orange County Legal Recruitment Association, Los Angeles Area Legal Recruitment Association, and Bay Area Legal Recruitment Association.
• Contributes to and presents at conferences, writes articles, and participates in initiatives to contribute to the private sector legal market.
• Formulates and implements recruiting strategies for UCI Law’s on-campus interview programs, ensuring J.D. students have access to the best private sector job opportunities.

Requirements

• Creative and forward-looking approach to identify and pursue new programs and innovative career counseling methods.
• Advanced knowledge of counseling processes, career coaching techniques, job search techniques, and learning styles.
• Extensive professional network of practicing attorneys and potential employers.
• Strong ability to design and modify computer applications, conduct research, and communicate effectively.
• Detailed knowledge of the private sector legal job market.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• 4-6 years of private sector legal practice experience.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of JD programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
• Strong ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
• Experience with career development theories.

Pay

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $77,000- $86,000 (Annual).
