About the role

The Assistant/Associate Dean of Nursing will provide administrative oversight and leadership for the Nursing Department. They will serve as the Nurse Administrator/Administrator of Record in accordance with Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) requirements. This role involves ensuring compliance with applicable licensing, accreditation, regulatory, and College requirements, preparing and submitting required reports, and maintaining records in accordance with all applicable standards and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Nurse Administrator/Administrator of Record in accordance with BORN and ACEN requirements
  • Ensure each nursing program complies with applicable licensing, accreditation, regulatory, and College requirements
  • Prepare and submit required reports
  • Maintain records in accordance with all applicable standards and policies
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure programs meet BORN and ACEN standards and support continuous program improvement
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs in collaboration with program directors
  • Participate in College governance and serve on committees that support administrative and academic leadership
  • Provide leadership for competency-based curriculum, instruction, and program development
  • Evaluate outcomes and recommend improvements aligned with contemporary evidence-based practice
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate program goals, objectives, policies, and services consistent with the College’s mission, philosophy, and strategic plan
  • Coordinate program reviews and review program outcomes in collaboration with appropriate faculty and administrators
  • Manage and participate in administrative, board, department, and other meetings to maintain effective communication and information flow
  • Orient and mentor new full-time and part-time faculty and staff in collaboration with current faculty
  • Support searches for full-time and part-time nursing faculty positions
  • Support faculty in using varied instructional methods, including distance technologies and simulation, to strengthen teaching effectiveness and student outcomes
  • Assist with class schedules and teaching assignments to support program needs and student learning
  • Facilitate and monitor faculty workload and assignments
  • Work with the Clinical Compliance Officer and program chair to secure and maintain clinical placements for students in both programs, including use of the Centralized Clinical Placement (CCP) system and participation in CCP meetings
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical placement facilities and develop innovative clinical and workforce partnerships
  • Conduct scheduled annual clinical site visits
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Compliance Officer and Program Chairs to monitor and address student clearance process issues
  • Resolve student concerns in accordance with applicable laws and established program, institutional, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts policies and procedures
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, culturally responsive, and civil learning and working environment
  • Collaborate with faculty and the Dean to prepare grant proposals and identify workforce development opportunities
  • Work with the Office of Admissions and Program Chairs to oversee student selection, admission, progression, and records related to student progress and outcomes
  • Strengthen connections with MassBay’s Nursing Assistant program and other health career programs that provide pathways into nursing
  • Contribute to Division- and College-wide outreach events that increase awareness of and enrollment in nursing programs
  • Serve on advisory boards for one to two external health care agencies to support nursing collaboration, clinical partnerships, and grant opportunities
  • Participate in professional organizations and maintain current knowledge of trends, research, and best practices related to nursing education and program administration

Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or an earned entry-level doctorate in nursing
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing, or eligibility to obtain licensure upon hire
  • Minimum of five years of full-time nursing experience, or its equivalent, within the past eight years
  • At least three years of experience in academic and nursing administration
  • Demonstrated nursing leadership experience, including at least two years as a Director of Nursing or in another administrative role with oversight of nursing programs
  • Expertise appropriate to the administrative responsibilities of the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need
  • Doctorate in Nursing or a related field
  • Experience preparing regulatory, accreditation, or compliance reports for agencies such as BORN, ACEN, DPH, or NECHE, including successful completion of reports, follow-up reports, and/or site visits
  • Proven leadership skills with strong, positive interpersonal communication
  • Familiarity with concept-based curricula or other innovative curriculum models
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within collective bargaining agreements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with alternative teaching and learning approaches, such as service-learning, learning communities, distance and hybrid learning, and simulation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community college principles, practices, and procedures
  • Administrative and budget management experience
  • Ability to build collaborative teams and unite diverse faculty, staff, and students around shared goals
