About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in directing the day-to-day functions of the Georgia War Veterans Home in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times and oversees specialty services programs, including the Mental Health Support Unit, Memory Support Unit, and Transitional Support Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee compliance with regulatory guidance and work with department supervisors and the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee to identify areas of deficient practice(s) and establish performance improvement plans, as needed.
  • Manage day-to-day operations and act on behalf of the Executive Director/Administrator in their absence.
  • Assist the Executive Director/Administrator in recruiting, interviewing, screening, and onboarding new staff in key positions.
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources and department directors in developing written job descriptions for each staff position.
  • Assist the Infection Preventionist and/or committee in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director/Administrator and the Director of Human Resources on issues involving labor laws and progressive discipline in alignment with company policy.
  • Contribute to the development of facility policies, procedures, strategic planning, and plans of correction.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to reduce or mitigate avoidable re-hospitalizations and other key performance indicators.
  • Participate in pre-admission screening for prospective admissions.
  • Interpret the facility’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies, as necessary or instructed.
  • Monitor Minimum Data Set (MDS) data transmissions to ensure resident assessment data is transferred accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review the facility’s policies and procedures with department directors and make recommendations to the Executive Director/Administrator to ensure continued compliance with current regulations.
  • Participate in the annual facility-wide assessment to determine resources necessary for competent resident care during both day-to-day and emergency operations.
  • Serve on various facility committees (e.g., infection prevention and control, QAPI, safety) as appointed by the Executive Director/Administrator and provide reports of committee meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure the facility has sufficient nursing staff with appropriate competencies to provide nursing and related services, assuring resident safety and well-being.
  • Assist in scheduling department work hours, personnel, and work assignments as necessary or required.
  • Investigate complaints, grievances, and violations of residents’ rights, providing oral and written accounts to the Executive Director/Administrator with recommendations and findings.
  • Consult with department directors to assist in eliminating or correcting problem areas and improving services; report findings and solutions to the Executive Director/Administrator.
  • Ensure all licensure requirements are met for each employee and that employees attend regular in-service training.
  • Assist department directors in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs to ensure current material and programs are provided.
  • Coordinate with the Housekeeping Supervisor to ensure a safe working environment, mitigate resident risk, and comply with all local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Ensure the resident environment remains free of accident hazards and that each resident receives adequate supervision and assistive devices to prevent accidents.
  • Assist the Housekeeping Supervisor in developing and implementing waste disposal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all facility personnel, residents, and visitors follow established safety procedures.
  • Ensure all hazardous chemicals are appropriately labeled and safety data sheets (SDSs) are easily accessible.
  • Ensure personnel follow established facility policies governing the use and disposal of personal protective equipment (PPE) and infectious wastes.
  • Ensure the building and grounds are maintained in good repair and free of hazards.
  • Review and monitor accident/incident reports (e.g., falls, injuries of unknown source, abuse) and report the effectiveness of the facility’s risk management program to the Executive Director/Administrator.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are on hand to meet day-to-day operational needs and are ordered/delivered in accordance with established purchasing policies.
  • Assist in preparing an annual operating budget for approval by the Executive Director/Administrator and allocate resources to carry out facility programs in accordance with the annual facility assessment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or nursing facility.
  • Working knowledge of nursing facility operational standards and requirements of participation.
  • Current and unencumbered Nursing Facility Administrator license in the State of Georgia, or actively in the process of obtaining such licensure.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business or health administration or a related field.

Skills

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly and understandably.
  • Function independently with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Meet general health requirements set by facility policies.
  • Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile individuals.
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Ability to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
