Position Summary
The Assistant Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach is a full-time, 12-month position. The position is responsible for assisting the Head Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach in all aspects of the nationally competitive Acrobatics & Tumbling team.
Essential Functions
- Assists with recruiting student-athletes that are committed to academic and athletic excellence.
- Assists head coach with team training and various administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to community service, academic support, fundraising, and recruiting.
- Trains, strengthens, and develops all student-athletes.
- Learns, understands, and complies with all NCATA, NCAA, and Gannon University policies and requirements.
- Promotes and represents the University whenever possible.
- Has adequate training and background to properly plan, implement, train, and coach elite-level acrobatics and tumbling skill sets.
- Affords assistance in the development and implementation of a year-round strength & conditioning program.
- Affords assistance in the development and implementation of camps and clinics.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within the program, department, and University.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility and requirements of the job.
Required Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree; working knowledge of NCATA and NCAA rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them. Must successfully complete the USA Gymnastics safety course.
- University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
- Experience: Gymnastics/Cheer/Acrobatics & Tumbling experience at the collegiate level. Coaching experience at the high school level or higher is strongly preferred.
- Licensure: Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing and CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.
- Skills: Must have excellent communication and organization skills and technical knowledge of acrobatics and tumbling skill sets combined with the ability to effectively teach and coach them. Must be a self-starter, willing to learn, and passionate about creating a positive, productive atmosphere for student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and prior collegiate competitive and/or coaching experience.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy athletic team schedule. Able to assist head coach with spotting student-athletes, overhead spotting rig, and mat movement as needed.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy University setting. The work schedule will vary with heavier emphasis September through April.
