About the Role
MABVI is seeking volunteers for a relationship-building and task-oriented role within the Community Volunteer Program. Volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with a variety of tasks to support independence and quality of life.
This specific opportunity involves assisting a participant in South Boston, MA. A car is required for this role, and the volunteer is expected to help once a week or bimonthly.
Responsibilities
- Reading mail
- Paying bills
- Assisting with internet use and technology
- Providing medical transportation
- Going grocery shopping
- Running errands in the community
- Engaging in recreational activities (e.g., serving as a running/walking sighted guide)
- Performing other clerical tasks as needed
Requirements
- Willingness to travel within the City of Boston or a minimum of 10-15 miles
- Access to a car for this specific role in South Boston
- Commitment of 1-2 hours per week or every other week (flexible based on participant needs)
Volunteer Onboarding Process
- Complete a MABVI Volunteer application
- Finish the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
- Schedule a Zoom chat with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team and submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- Get matched with a MABVI participant
