About the role

Spectrum News is seeking an Assignment Editor to join our dynamic newsroom. This role involves coordinating news teams, resources, and logistics to ensure major stories are covered during shifts.

Responsibilities

• Make sure major stories are covered during the given shift by coordinating news teams, resources, and logistics.
• Establish priorities and assign news units to cover them.
• Organize the news gathering team's duties and collaborate on article ideas.
• Part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate content to connect with viewers across traditional and digital platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience: Assignment desk experience in a television newsroom - 4+ years
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communication or comparable television work experience preferred
• Technical Skills: Ability to develop sources
• Skills: Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; ability to relate well with populations
• Abilities: Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and work under time pressure deadlines
• Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
• Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays
