Assignment Editor

Responsibilities

• Cook up interviews and logistical arrangements for field crews.
• Facilitate the news-gathering process and guarantee complete coverage of all news stories across all platforms, including but not limited to broadcast, digital, and web.
• Lead editorial meetings.
• Develop enterprise story ideas aligned with the news brand.
• Cultivate connections crucial to news coverage in the market, such as law enforcement.
• Monitor police and emergency scanners, social media platforms, and other electronic/printed sources for news and distribute the information to relevant newsroom personnel.
• Assist in the production of newscasts when necessary.

Qualifications

• Solid news judgment.
• Strong writing and research skills.
• Ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, act decisively, and successfully manage multiple assignments in a high-pressure, breaking news environment.
• Basic understanding and demonstration of solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander, and applicable FCC rules and regulations.
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels.
• Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology.
• Work well in a team environment.
