About the Role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. Assets Protection (AP) teams keep guests, team members, and the brand secure while leading through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability. This role builds relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement.

This position helps develop skills in:

  • Leading a security culture, including crisis response, safety, and crowd management
  • Implementing daily/weekly AP workload priorities to support business goals
  • Responding to external and internal theft incidents and preventing future theft
  • Implementing strategic resolutions for external theft and fraud, apprehending individuals per Target policy
  • Partnering with store leaders on operational shortage priorities
  • Leading a team of hourly team members, including interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining talent

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a consistent, easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience
  • Train and ensure team members understand and deliver on Target’s guest experience commitments
  • Observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experiences
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities and drive results
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring product availability
  • Engage guests at the front of the store and on the sales floor
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in emergency crisis response
  • Support leaders in educating teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning for accountability and performance management
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in your store and develop tactics to reduce shortage
  • Work a flexible schedule aligned with guest and business needs (early mornings, overnights, evenings, weekends, and holidays)
  • Own the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents, including apprehensions per policy
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed by AP leadership
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution
  • Implement operational changes as directed by leadership
  • Order and manage merchandise protection devices within budget guidelines
  • Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership
  • Maintain relationships with district/store leaders and law enforcement
  • Collaborate with retail partners to analyze industry trends and enhance security
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions; develop a guest-centric team
  • Support team onboarding, learning, and closing skill gaps through training
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and compliance; hold team members accountable
  • Maintain all required training and serve as first responder for in-store safety incidents
  • Lead and model a culture of safety, correcting hazards and reporting injuries
  • Execute safety program routines, including monthly safety meetings and observations
  • Model physical security processes to enhance in-store security culture
  • Address store needs, including emergencies and regulatory visits

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet state/local licensure and legal requirements for the position
  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable
  • Ability to communicate using multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude with effective communication skills
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts)
  • Reliable and prompt attendance; full-time role without guaranteed 40 hours per week
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
