Assets Protection Team Leader

Assets Protection (AP) teams function to keep our guests, team, and brand secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability for our guests. AP teams also build relationships inside and outside of Target, including store leaders and public safety officials.
Responsibilities
- Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly guest experience.
- Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
- Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
- Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution.
- Support total store sales and increase profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available to guests.
- Welcome and engage guests at the front of the store and on the salesfloor.
- Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in store response and emergency crisis situations; create security plans for in-store events.
- Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store, including storage and application as directed by best practices.
- Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise.
- Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning around a culture of accountability.
- Identify theft and shortage trends in the store and develop tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
- Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs, including early morning/overnight shifts, evenings, and weekends.
- Own the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents, including apprehensions and investigations.
- Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution.
- Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
- Build relationships with district and store leaders, law enforcement, and other external partners.
- Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
- Lead and demonstrate a culture of safety, inclusivity, and ethical conduct.
- Address store needs, such as emergency or regulatory visits.
- Perform all other duties based on business needs.
Skills
- Leading a security culture, including crisis response, safety environment, and crowd management planning.
- Implementing daily/weekly AP workload priorities to support business goals.
- Responding to external and internal theft incidents and preventing future theft.
- Partnering with store leaders on operational shortage priorities.
- Leading and developing a team of hourly team members.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old or older.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position.
- Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
- Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
- Climb up and down ladders.
- Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
- Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
Schedule
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, closing shifts, and other peak shopping times.
Pay
The starting pay range for this position is $23.50 - $25.50 per hour. The full pay range is $23.50 - $39.95 per hour. Pay is based on several factors, including labor markets, and in some instances, education, work experience, and certifications.
