About the role

As an Assets Protection Team Leader at Target, you’ll help keep our guests, team, and brand secure while leading through crisis events. You’ll protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability for our guests. This role involves building relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement.

This position offers the opportunity to develop skills in leading a security culture, crisis response, safety management, crowd control, theft prevention, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a consistent and inspiring guest experience by training and holding team members accountable for Target’s guest experience commitments.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, improve execution, and celebrate successes.
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available to guests.
  • Engage guests at the front of the store and on the sales floor.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in store response and emergency crisis situations.
  • Educate teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning, including interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining team members.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in your store and develop tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
  • Work a schedule aligned with guest and business needs, including early mornings, overnights, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on security and theft patterns.
  • Own the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents, including conducting apprehensions while adhering to policy and procedures.
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed by leadership.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution.
  • Order merchandise protection devices as needed to meet store standards and manage the allocated budget.
  • Communicate Assets Protection priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Maintain relationships with district and store leaders, as well as law enforcement, to uphold Target’s reputation.
  • Collaborate with retail partners to analyze industry trends and enhance security for guests and team members.
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions, supporting onboarding and closing knowledge gaps through training.
  • Demonstrate and uphold a culture of ethical conduct, compliance, and accountability.
  • Serve as a first responder for in-store safety incidents (e.g., security, weather) and execute Target’s procedures and best practices.
  • Lead and model a safety culture, including hazard identification, incident response, and injury reporting.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
  • Model and support the execution of physical security processes to enhance in-store security culture.
  • Address store needs such as emergencies or regulatory visits.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position.
  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Ability to communicate using multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology equipment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude with effective communication skills.
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
  • Work a flexible schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable and prompt attendance.
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).

Pay

The starting pay range for this position is $23.25 - $25.25 per hour. The full pay range is $23.25 - $39.50 per hour. Pay is based on several factors, including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
