About the Role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. Assets Protection (AP) teams keep guests, team members, and the brand secure while leading through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability. This role builds relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement.

This position helps develop skills in:

  • Leading a security culture, including crisis response, safety, and crowd management
  • Implementing daily/weekly AP workload priorities to support business goals
  • Responding to theft incidents and preventing future losses
  • Implementing strategic resolutions for external theft and fraud
  • Partnering with store leaders on operational shortage priorities
  • Leading a team, including interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining talent

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a consistent, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by ensuring team members understand and execute Target’s guest experience commitments.
  • Observe and provide feedback to team members, holding them accountable while recognizing great guest interactions.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, improve execution, and celebrate wins.
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available.
  • Engage guests at the front of the store and on the sales floor.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in emergency crisis response and create security plans for in-store events.
  • Educate teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning, including clear expectations and performance management.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in the store and develop tactics to reduce shortage and drive sales.
  • Work a flexible schedule aligned with guest and business needs, including early mornings, overnights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Own the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents, including conducting apprehensions per policy.
  • Initiate and resolve internal investigations as directed by AP leadership.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution.
  • Implement operational changes as directed by leadership.
  • Order and manage merchandise protection devices to meet store standards and budget.
  • Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Maintain relationships with district/store leaders and law enforcement.
  • Collaborate with retail partners to analyze industry trends and enhance security.
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions; support onboarding and training.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, compliance, and accountability.
  • Serve as a first responder for in-store safety incidents (e.g., security, weather).
  • Lead and model a safety culture, including hazard identification and incident reporting.
  • Execute safety program routines, such as monthly safety meetings and observations.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
  • Address store needs, including emergencies and regulatory visits.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet state/local licensure or legal requirements for the position
  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable
  • Ability to communicate using frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude with strong communication skills
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Work a flexible schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable and prompt attendance
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)

Full-time role, but hours may fluctuate based on business needs and are not guaranteed at 40 hours per week.
