About the role

The Asset Technology Field Technician I installs, repairs, upgrades, calibrates and troubleshoots current telematics products on Cat and other equipment brands of heavy machinery. In addition, this position trains customers on machine telematics products.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; collaborate with key internal/external resources; participate in ongoing self-development.

Responsibilities

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Install telematics devices on heavy equipment in the field requiring the use of hand tools and understands wiring diagrams, splicing and building wiring harnesses, updating of flash files and PC configuration
  • Repair telematics devices on heavy equipment in the field to include installing and confirming firmware
  • Upgrade or replace telematics components on heavy equipment in the field to include the flashing of machine or attachment ECM firmware
  • Troubleshoot and test telematics components on heavy equipment in the field to include the flashing of ECM firmware
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • More than one year of electrical troubleshooting or repair experience required; three or more years preferred
  • Additional technical training and/or Associates Degree in related field preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Skills

  • Knowledge with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and related tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to operate multiple sized and brands of heavy equipment to include motor graders, dozers, loaders, skid steers, asphalt trimmers, rock mills and paving systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair various electronic systems related to machine technology products
  • Must be able to read and understand wiring diagrams
  • Ability to build and pin out cables
  • Excellent work habits, accuracy, attention to detail, and quality of work

Work Environment

Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity

Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment, (PPE)

Works in an enclosed and open vehicle or equipment

Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water and high speed rotating equipment

Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting

Exposure to high noise levels and body vibration

Works in confined work spaces, awkward positions, and high places

Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings

Frequently works at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions

Travel and Physical Requirements

Up to 100% travel, and up to 20% to include overnight stay may be required. Up to, but not limited to twice per month

Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and reaching

Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity

Frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath and on equipment

Occasionally lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
