As an Asset Protection Captain, you’ll train, educate, and supervise staff in detecting and preventing theft of company property while supporting the store’s efforts to provide exceptional customer service in a controlled environment. This role ensures maximum sales at the highest profit rate attainable.
Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. All schedules include weekend shifts, and hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.
Responsibilities
- Select, train, develop, and supervise Asset Protection / Loss Prevention staff on detecting and preventing theft of company property
- Develop, implement, and communicate programs to prevent theft among customers and employees
- Participate in initial orientation and ongoing training, including computer, surveillance, and alarm systems
- Respond to customer and associate incidents to facilitate first aid and minimize company liability
- Recover stolen merchandise and apprehend shoplifters who commit fraud or other criminal acts against the company
- Investigate criminal violations against the person or property of any customer or associate committed on company premises
- Prepare prompt and complete reports relative to theft incidents, merchandise recoveries, accident investigations, audits, and other assigned activities
- Maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions, searches and seizures, and preservation of evidence
- Successfully complete all security training requirements and maintain personal certifications as required by law
- Conduct and oversee audits to ensure sales department compliance with merchandise exposure standards and asset protection
- Develop and maintain relationships with local law enforcement to facilitate coordination for potential criminal cases
- Testify in court concerning cases where the company is a party of interest
- Work on special assignments, investigations, and surveillance as directed by the Store AP/LP Manager
- Respond to alarm conditions at the assigned store
- Perform other duties as needed

Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 1-2 years of related experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate and share information with diverse groups
- Resourceful self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team, adapting quickly to changing priorities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
- Obtain and maintain required licenses, trainings, and certifications (e.g., current New York State Security Guard License for jobs in New York)
Essential Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing/walking around the store or department
- Occasional reaching above eye level, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
- Ability to apprehend shoplifters
- Ability to sustain long periods enclosed in surveillance areas
- Frequently lift/move up to 30 lbs
