Pay Range: $26.86 - $33.04 Hourly

About the Role

The Multnomah County Division of Assessment, Recording, and Taxation (DART) is seeking Assessment and Taxation Technicians for the Customer Relations Unit. This opening is for one (1) position in the Property Tax and Ownership Team, with potential for future vacancies in other DART teams. The role focuses on providing sincere and authentic customer service to the public and administrative support to internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Answer inquiries from the public about processes, referencing Oregon Revised Statutes, in person, by phone, and by email while maintaining high customer service standards.
• Model professionalism, adaptability, and a positive attitude while collaborating with teammates to fulfill individual and team responsibilities.
• Accurately process and record official instruments, verifying compliance with legal standards, including Oregon Revised Statutes.
• Provide property tax information (amounts and values), including details on taxpayer programs administered by the State and County.
• Respond to complex questions about bonds, levies, and their impact on real and personal property tax accounts.
• Explain Oregon Revised Statutes governing services provided by the department.
• Provide general information on the Property Tax Appeal process and administrative support for the Property Values Appeal Board.
• Process ownership transfers, perform research, and update change of addresses.
• Create and maintain a permanent index of recorded legal documents; scan and record them.
• Respond to inquiries and issue marriage licenses and domestic partnerships.
• Process property tax payments, collect fees, receive payments, and balance cash drawers.
• Sort, open, and distribute mail; scan, review, reconcile, and post high volumes of non-cash payments.
• Process ownership changes, deferral applications, and assist with property tax foreclosure, garnishment, and payment research.
• Prepare advance tax bills and calculate advance taxes for manufactured structures, partition plats, subdivisions, and business personal property accounts.

Requirements

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Two years of experience servicing the public and/or providing customer service, including explaining established rules, laws, and regulations.
• Experience with high-accuracy data entry.
• Experience in cash handling.
• Must pass a criminal records background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience de-escalating customer concerns in person, via email, or over the phone.
• Specialized experience applying laws, policies, and procedures.
• Transferable skills from education, work experience (including military), or life experience relevant to the role.
