About the role
The Assessment department at PRN Highland Springs is crucial for fulfilling our mission of "Changing People’s Lives®". Our team members assess the needs of walk-in and phone callers and complete initial psychiatric assessments on patients seeking treatment.
Responsibilities
- Assists callers with scheduling a face-to-face assessment or triage to the appropriate community referral.
- Affirms or ensures that a qualified mental health professional conducts an assessment for patients presenting for evaluation.
- Screens for medical and behavioral emergencies.
- Conducts a comprehensive assessment and provides quality therapeutic care for patients seeking treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders.
- Collaborates with the clinical team and on-call physicians to ensure the needs of patients are met, either at the facility or through other appropriate community providers.
- Interprets treatment plans to patients and families to reduce barriers to care and encourage continued treatment.
- Completes administrative tasks such as admission and precertification of care with external payers, as needed.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in social work or counseling is required, with RN licensure accepted in lieu of a master’s degree based on state regulations.
- Current unencumbered clinical social work or counseling license, or equivalent, is required based on state practice guidelines.
- Valid driver’s license and a favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), along with proof of insurance when using personal vehicle.
- Ability to meet typing and keyboarding requirements.
- CPR and CPI certification must be obtained within 30 days.
- Prior experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility, particularly with adult and geriatric patients, is preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment skills are essential.
