Assembly Technician

About the Role

American Rheinmetall (AR) is a leader in the design, development, and production of advanced tracked and wheeled vehicles, vehicle systems, and critical components that support U.S. military modernization. The Prototype Center Assembly Technician will work within the AR engineering team to perform vehicle assembly tasks on prototype vehicles and systems, meeting schedule, budget, and quality expectations of the customer.

Responsibilities

• Work with partners and teammates to assemble AR’s combat vehicle prototypes and systems.
• Perform heavy assembly tasks on military vehicles, including mechanical assembly of major vehicle systems such as chassis, turret, weapon systems, armor systems, drive systems, and power pack.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, 3D models, specifications, sketches, job orders, planning documents, and engineering drawings.
• Perform assembly tasks from design drawings and written or verbal work instructions.
• Use hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, magnetic drills, grinders, and other equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain a proven safety record in performing assembly operations.
• Adapt positively to changes and rework during assembly tasks.
• Offer input on design and assembly improvements.
• Work independently.

Requirements

• Diesel Engine Mechanic and/or Heavy Vehicle Assembly experience required.
• 5 or more years of experience in prototype component assembly and vehicle assembly.
• Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, magnetic drills, grinders, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, sketches, job orders, planning documents, and engineering drawings.
• Ability to perform assembly tasks from design drawings and written or verbal work instructions.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Military vehicle assembly or military vehicle modification experience.
• Basic knowledge of diesel power pack operation and maintenance.
• Familiarity with high voltage electrical systems and electrical harness installation in vehicles.
• Fork Truck, Crane, and basic machine shop equipment skills with certifications.
• Welding of steel and aluminum experience with certification.
• Material surface preparation and spray painting experience.
• Experience in driving/operating military vehicles.
• Certifications such as ASE Mechanic License, CDL, fork truck operation, or crane operation.
• Welding certification.
• Higher Education Degree.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Requires the physical and mental capacity to perform effectively all essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Standing for extended periods of time continuously.
• Lifting or carrying weight up to 50 pounds unassisted and pushing or pulling weight up to 25 pounds unassisted frequently.
• Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity continuously.
• Climbing into and onto vehicles or mock-ups with limited physical space frequently.
• Handling regulated and hazardous wastes and materials occasionally.
• Must be able to become certified to wear a respirator occasionally.
