Assembly Supervisor – Second Shift

About the role

Focal Point has an immediate opening for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Assembly Supervisor to join our second shift Operations team in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

• Plans and directs the activities of all human and physical resources of the assigned assembly department to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity goals
• Oversees work order management, material flow, and material handling to ensure efficient utilization of resources
• Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment, by following defined safety procedures, encouraging involvement, following up on safety concerns, and modeling proper safe behaviors
• Develops and implements safety procedures and supports Safety Manager in achieving departmental and plant safety goals
• Identifies, develops and implements safety, quality, and productivity best practices across the Assembly department
• Utilizes product and process knowledge to provide training to direct reports with a focus on developing a professional and flexible workforce
• Accountable for team member’s performance and responsible for employee relations issues, including required discipline
• Achieves the expected level of quality service by ensuring adherence to company quality standards and proposing improvements to quality procedures based on observations of production process
• Participates in 8D Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, ISO audits, validation, and verification activities) as required
• Creates and updates processes and systems by analyzing layouts, operating controls and procedures
• Champions continuous improvement efforts and works with supporting function to implement change
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate cost and/or waste through the application of LEAN manufacturing principals
• Supports cross-functional teams by providing feedback and resources throughout the new product development and continuous improvement process
• Encourages team to actively participate in prototyping and training activities
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Proven track record of leading, both directly and through influence
• Able to build strong team relations with peers and work collaboratively with people across all levels and departments
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Demonstrated tenacity for identifying opportunities for improvements and developing solutions
• Customer-focused with a high sense of urgency
• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience managing and developing a diverse group of workers into a motivated self-improvement based workforce
• 2-year degree in an engineering, operations, business, or related field desired, 4-year degree preferred; applicable job experience will be considered in lieu of degree
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required
• Experience leading and managing groups of 30 or more employees
• Demonstrated ability to train production employees through hands-on methods
• Experience working in and applying lean principles in a manufacturing setting
• Proficient with the use of computer-based tools – ERP (JD Edwards preferred), MS Office Suite
• Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with all levels of work force including production workers, engineers and upper-level management
