About the role

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has openings for Assembly Mechanic-Composite Fabrication to join and support our 777x Composite Team. This role encompasses all duties of the following job classifications: Inspector Assembly, Sub-Assembly Precision, Mechanic Aircraft Production, Mechanic Electrical and Radio, Sheet Metal Assembler, and Riveter.

Responsibilities

• Composite drilling, tooling preparation, machine set-up, and operation
• Overhead crane, forklift, and tug operation
• Assemble precision assemblies; set up and operate ream fixtures to drill, ream, countersink, spot face, hone, and bore for mating major assemblies
• Set up and operate shot peen equipment and accessories for stress relieving assemblies
• Install press fit and force fit bushings; file, fit, hone, ream, drill, tap, saw, burr, and adjust
• Assemble a variety of production aircraft and spacecraft parts; install aircraft equipment, support equipment, or power plant equipment
• Install, operationally check out, adjust, rig, and pressure check systems
• Perform bench and assembly line operational check out, troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment of electrical and electronic systems, lighting circuits, power plant systems, wing fold circuits, missile launch racks, aircraft instrumentation, flight test instrumentation, fire wiring systems, and fuel systems
• Assemble, install, check out physical characteristics, and modify wire bundles to aircraft or aircraft mock-ups
• Bench assemble electrical or electronic components and conductors into electrical units and systems before methods and procedures have been established
• Cut, identify, strip, tin, solder, attach components, and pot to prepare wire for assembly; tie, seal, and pack assembled bundles and units
• Install wire bundles or other electrical and electronic components in aircraft, power plants, or ground support equipment
• Assemble aircraft and/or spacecraft structures or support equipment structures with or without the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, reaming, countersinking, stop countersinking, dimpling, burring, fastening, filing, fitting, aligning, trimming, shimming, and removing surface defects
• Perform skilled assembly operations such as shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning, which may vary considerably from one assembly to another (e.g., fairings and mating of major assemblies)
• Realign or replace ribs, bulkheads, or stringers in skinned assemblies
• Establish from blueprints (with or without firm callouts) butt, center, chord, station, and water lines
• Blind pick-up of hole locations for blank parts from existing structure
• Correct cans, buckles, wrinkles in outer skins, and remove surface defects

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• 1+ years of experience operating equipment requiring continuous monitoring to ensure correct operation
• 1+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools
• Must meet Export Control compliance requirements; a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required (“US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee)
• Ability to work any shift assigned
• Must live in the immediate area or relocate at your own expense

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using lean principles
• Experience in composites fabrication, soldering, assembly, or autoclave operations
• Experience working with composites and/or composite manufacturing

Physical Demands

• Limited (0-1 Hrs): Crawling, lying down (back, front, side), forceful grasping
• Occasional (1-3 Hrs): Lifting, pushing, pulling, and supporting up to 35 lbs; bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching
• Frequent (3-6 Hrs): Exposure to noise; lifting, pushing, pulling up to 35 lbs; standing, reaching, handling, turning
• Frequent (up to 8 hours): Standing; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and working on ladders
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving parts, and occasional high/exposed places
• Working on elevated and/or uneven surfaces
• Use of personal protective equipment for eyes, hearing, and face may be required

Pay

Summary pay range: $24.00/hour – $30.65/hour, based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

Schedule

• This is an hourly position governed by the IAM 837 Collective Bargaining agreement
• All new employees, rehires without seniority, or transfers from outside of IAM 837 jurisdiction shall be regarded as probationary during their first 120 calendar days of employment
• Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of any required training and the probationary period
