About the role

The candidate will respond to issues on the shop floor, addressing Assembly Quality Events (AQE) assigned to engineering and resolving questions or issues from the shop (section managers, auditors, assemblers, and manufacturing, quality, and supplier quality engineers). The role involves frequent communication and collaboration with design teams via email, Teams chat/calls, and meetings to resolve design issues. Time is split between the shop floor and desk as needed. The position includes participation in weekly AQE, BIQ, and warranty review meetings. Core hours are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with some flexibility. This is an onsite role from day one.

Responsibilities

• Maintain close interaction with LMT assembly areas to communicate engineering issues arising during manufacturing/assembly processes.
• Communicate engineering issues to the responsible Engineering Team via Assembly Quality Events (AQE), Built In Quality (BIQ) issues, and Continuous Improvement (CI) cards, ensuring their resolution through collaboration with Operations, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
• Update machine-level prints (paint and lube, general arrangement prints, test instructions) and bill of materials (BOM).
• Manage virtual print updates and attend shop floor Voice of Customer (VOC) meetings.
• Support prototype and pilot machine builds as part of New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Create and obtain authorization for deviations to resolve design issues.
• Perform pre-delivery audits (PDA) of finished assemblies, including marking issues, collaborating with operators to fix them, performing static torque checks, and documenting findings in a report with part numbers and model snapshots.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of experience.
• AS or BS in a manufacturing or engineering discipline (Master’s degree would be overqualified).
• Machine assembly/processing experience.
• Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Proficiency in basic software (Word, Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint).
• Experience with machine design/process design, engineering coordination, VisView, or TeamCenter is a plus.
• Familiarity with PRWB, Tableau (view AQEs), Decatur Web Apps, MES, AQE, ETQ Reliance Portal (Deviation), CPI-BIQ, I-Cubed, CI processes, Parts Discovery Tools, NPI, and BIQ.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $60,000 – $64,000 USD per year (Decatur, IL).
