About the role

Johnson Controls is creating smarter, healthier, and more sustainable environments. This position involves applying paint and primers using spray equipment, preparing surfaces, and maintaining painting equipment. Depending on paint workload, the role also includes assembling Air Handling Units, pipe chases, and hoods, as well as labeling units and performing visual quality checks.

Essential Duties

  • Use spray equipment to apply paint and primers
  • Select paint color for specific jobs
  • Clean, prepare surfaces to be painted, and mask as required
  • Clean, wipe up excess paint, remove masking, visually check for runs, shadows, improper coverage, touch up, and/or paint thickness
  • Mix, thin, and otherwise prepare paints for application
  • Maintain paint supplies and materials
  • Maintain related spraying equipment
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work area, including paint kitchen, booth and all surrounding areas associated with paint
  • Assemble Air Handling Units depending on paint work load
  • Assemble pipe chases and hoods as required
  • Label Units as required
  • Use test equipment and perform visual quality checks
  • Report work related injuries and near misses to supervision
  • Wear all required PPE and follow applicable safety/environmental rules
  • Correct or report unsafe conditions observed within the plant

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • One to three months related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current forklift license
  • Certified for Respirator use
  • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates attention to detail
  • Ability to read, communicate and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints and engineering drawings in the English language

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work in a noisy, dusty, industrial/manufacturing environment, exposed to non-toxic fumes, chemicals, grease and oils
  • Work with machinery and moving parts
  • Operate crane, truck, motor vehicles
  • Work with moving vehicles, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Properly lift/carry/push/pull/manipulate/transport up to 30 lbs
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, and frequently lift up to 40 lbs
  • Work in a non-climate controlled environment
  • Work in repetitive motions and pressure involving fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Long periods of standing or walking over hard concrete surface
  • Recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, stretching, or similar activities
  • Reach at high levels
  • Read, write, speak and communicate in the English Language
  • Frequently work more than 40 hours weekly
  • Wear respirator and Tyvek suit
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather)
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Pay

$24.12 - $28.49 per hour. Hourly rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data.
