About the role
We are seeking a Level II Assembler for our Huntington, IN location to build Shuttleworth's complex conveyor systems for the material handling industry to specifications provided by the Engineering Department with little to no supervision.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering prints, specifications and verbal or written instructions to determine procedures and methods necessary to assemble a conveyor system in a timely manner with little to no supervision from the assembly foreman/ supervisor.
- Assemble all complexity levels and styles of conveyor components, devices, machines, pneumatics and full integrated systems where a high degree of problem solving and extreme care, skilled workmanship and accuracy are required to meet strict inspection, testing and operating specifications.
- Recommend design changes to improve the operation of the equipment, if necessary.
- Perform wiring on devices and conveyors as directed by the Assembly Foreman/Supervisor, with the use of electrical schematics.
- Independently lead a small team of assemblers, as requested, from project start date through Quality Checkout and customer FAT and sign off.
- Take on a lead role in the Quality Checkout Process and adhere to all Shuttleworth Quality and Assembly standards and best practices and report deviations with suggested resolutions.
- Lead, train and mentor other employees and contractors in their training.
- Maintain organization of all project parts, files, prints, and general area throughout project lifecycle on the manufacturing floor per manufacturing best practice standards.
- Work with Engineering to build Mock-up designs for project testing and R&D.
- Think with and demonstrate an attitude for continuous improvement feedback for the manufacturing process and provide suggestions to the Assembly Supervisor and the Manufacturing Manager.
- Identify and lead special projects to advance the manufacturing and assembly departments, as directed by the Manufacturing Manager.
- Assure that the team and any other Shuttleworth employees are working in a safe manner and abiding by OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Train and assist in other departments as production needs require – Pre-assembly, Fabrication, Plastic Molding, Electrical.
- Other tasks as directed by Assembly Foreman, or Manufacturing Manager.
- 20-25% travel as needed for installation/service calls.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Technical training or 5+ years minimum related mechanical assembly, maintenance or automation experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Reliable attendance, and a vigor to execute the specified task to the best of ability meeting required deadlines
- Demonstrate and encourage a "whatever it takes" attitude in the assembly department to aid the team in achieving the desired goals
- OSHA 10 hr. card currently held or attained within 1 year
