Assembler 1, Test Tech

About the role
Performs both production assembly operations and complete system analysis, testing, and performance optimization. Provides basic electrical, mechanical, or software troubleshooting to determine problems in non-functioning test equipment and offers solutions based on pass/fail criteria of instrument performance. Identifies and escalates issues associated with instrument testing operations. Serves as a subject matter expert in instrument functional performance.
Responsibilities
- Build, integrate, and understand the entire assembly process and requirements for any instrument in the production area.
- Perform functional and release testing on at least one moderately complex instrument, proficiently following all test instructions.
- Analyze results and data to determine pass/fail status and provide solutions for failed tests.
- Optimize system performance, including precision of movement and light systems, using pass/fail data results.
- Identify defects and recommend design and process improvements as needed.
- Demonstrate expertise in reading and understanding drawings, work instructions, and workmanship standards.
- Train associates on a broad variety of mechanical and testing activities.
- Complete production activities in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, safety, and quality expectations.
- Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Purchasing as needed.
- Perform work activity in accordance with defined specifications, operating procedures, and company policies.
- Perform standard material handling functions for instrument raw materials and sub-assemblies.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment through housekeeping responsibilities.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all BD safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.
- Work overtime as required to meet business needs.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- AA degree in mechatronics or relevant field with 0 years’ experience, or 5 years’ experience in electrical, mechanical, or software troubleshooting.
- Capability to provide overall support for testing moderately complex instruments.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, coach, and develop other associates.
- Accountability for results and improving performance and processes across a team, work cell, or project.
- Strong commitment to Continuous Improvement, including active participation in Lean Manufacturing initiatives (e.g., Blitzes, Kaizen Action Sheets, Safety projects).
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical tools, including torque drivers, gauges, and bits.
- Proficiency in reading drawings, interpreting dimensions, and measuring requirements.
- Ability to manage time across multiple production orders and processes within allotted time standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting to achieve common goals.
- Understanding of specified Quality procedures and support of Continuous Improvement philosophies.
- Ability to complete tasks in support of achieving goals and improving performance.
- Ability to manage frequent assignment changes.
- Proficiency in English with strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
- Basic proficiency with PCs and a Windows environment.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Use of independent judgment to plan, perform, make decisions, troubleshoot, and problem-solve.
- Proven leadership ability and strong communication skills.

Pay
Hourly rate ranges from $19.40 to $31.10 USD, influenced by role requirements, location, labor laws, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements.
Schedule
Must be able to work overtime as required to meet business needs.
