About the Role
The Plant Manager oversees the operations of a specific plant or production facility. Key responsibilities include managing production schedules, ensuring quality control standards, optimizing production processes, managing plant personnel, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
- Present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ensure production levels are optimized with minimal plant downtime.
- Coordinate by-size production with sales market demands and long-range planning.
- Work closely with quality control technicians to ensure production meets customer needs.
- Utilize and maintain equipment to minimize equipment cost and downtime.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve plant efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet production goals and objectives.
- Manage daily production meetings on plant operations.
- Proactively ensure the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant area.
- Maintain proper levels of inventories to support local sales activities and long-range market demands.
- Manage financial decisions for the plant, including budgets, forecasts, inventory management, and labor and capital planning.
- Seek improvement activities to reduce costs and improve operating efficiency.
- Initiate action for environmental permits and prepare reports for various public agencies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required. BS/BA degree, Associates degree, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years prior work experience in supervising production employees, preferably in an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant.
- Construction materials industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees.
- Thorough working knowledge of plant operation (aggregate, asphalt, ready mix) and its associated products, processes, and related equipment.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations (MSHA and OSHA).
- Knowledge and understanding of business planning and financial forecasting requirements.
- Knowledge of drilling and blasting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization, conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment, and other relevant software packages.
- Ability to plan and manage effectively using motivation and team-building skills.
- Good organizational skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and practices.
- Flexible to work long hours and travel when needed.
- Must represent Vulcan in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal employees.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Requires use of computerized equipment and technology.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Pay
The base salary range for this role is between $98,000 - $115,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
