Asphalt Paver Operator

About the role

This is a highly skilled position involving the control and operation of the asphalt paving machine. You will report directly to the Paving Foreman. Based on geographical location, this position may require a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently
• Control material taken into the paver and the depths of material distributed through the machine
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving
• Maintain the efficient working condition of the equipment, performing minor servicing and maintenance or referring major problems to the supervisor
• Follow directions of manager regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures, using appropriate tools and equipment for the task
• Adhere to all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
• Communicate effectively and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
• Perform any other general duties as specified

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• Two years of related asphalt and road construction experience
• Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
• Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical
• Provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
• Report to work at the designated start time
• Willingness to travel and work away from home (this job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel)
• Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary
• Ability to work overtime when required
• Maintain a current driver’s license that meets state requirements
• Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards
• Willingness to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA
• At least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment
• Previous related experience in the construction field is preferred
