Asphalt Milling Machine Operator - Hampton Roads
About the role
The Asphalt Milling Machine Operator is responsible for operating asphalt milling machines to prepare surfaces for resurfacing. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to work shifts as needed.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Manipulate hand or foot levers to control the movement of the milling machine.
- Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine conveyor.
- Position and secure work pieces on the machine, using holding devices, measuring instruments, hand tools, and hoists.
- Verify alignment of work pieces on the machine, using measuring instruments such as rules, gauges, or calipers.
- Observe milling machine operation and adjust controls to ensure conformance with specified tolerances.
- Perform overtime work as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Milling Machine Operator preferred.
Qualifications
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and the ability to work safely in various conditions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Physical Demands
- Motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
- Lifting: up to 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
