Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor operating in the Central Texas region with crews specializing in HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. We are a family-oriented organization focused on the safety and health of our employees.
The Common Laborer position is an integral part of the paving crew working with the entire team, foreman, and superintendent to ensure paving jobs are completed to high standards. The ideal candidate is familiar with physical labor and able to perform tasks related to asphalt work in various settings and environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform general laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching, or prep crews
- Shovel, rake, and handle small tools
- Clean equipment as needed
- Operate small power tools when required
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
- Assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 1 year (or under) of experience
- Organized with a detail-oriented mindset
- Positive, friendly, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work well with others in group or one-on-one settings
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety policy; encourage others to adopt safety as a culture
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to avoid injury to oneself or endangerment of others
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
- Collaborate with project teams on special initiatives as required
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Entry-level position
- Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations is a plus
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
Working Conditions
- Availability for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required
- Some travel may be required as operations span throughout Texas
- Work is performed outdoors in various conditions, including inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required at all times
