POSITION SUMMARY

Focus Interpreting is seeking a dedicated English to ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreter to provide interpretation services for students in the Inland Empire. This position requires a commitment to facilitating clear communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing students in educational settings, ensuring that all students have equal access to learning opportunities year-round.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide accurate and timely interpretation of spoken English into ASL during classroom instruction, discussions, and other school-related activities
  • Adapt interpreting style to match instructional content and the individual needs of students
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions
  • Collaborate with educators, students, and parents to create an inclusive learning environment
  • Stay current with ASL interpretation techniques and best practices, continuously improving skills through professional development

REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluency in both English and ASL with excellent expressive and receptive skills
  • A valid certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g., RID, NAD) is preferred
  • Experience working with students in educational settings is highly desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals
  • Knowledge of educational policies related to students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing is a plus
