About the role
The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides academic support across all majors and disciplines at University of La Verne (ULV), aiming to foster engaged, self-sufficient learners who can confidently pursue their academic goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop individualized coaching plans with students, focusing on goal setting and achievement benchmarks.
- Support students on academic probation and assist with reinstatement, including accountability, study strategies, time management, self-organization, and techniques to build self-confidence.
- Work with students individually and in groups, facilitate class visits and workshops, create student resources, and collaborate with ASC professional staff on retention initiatives and outreach.
Requirements
- A current ULV student with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
- Effective communication skills to help students construct their understanding of themselves and the habits needed for success.
- A desire to support peers' social and emotional wellness, as well as their academic and professional endeavors.
- The ability to listen to student needs and work cooperatively in setting realistic and productive learning goals and objectives.
- Sensitivity to diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of ASC students.
- Dependability, personal accountability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Self-motivation, self-regulation, and a desire to mature and learn in a professional teaching/learning environment.
Qualifications
- Previous academic support experience, especially in supporting students with documented disabilities.
- Previous tutoring experience.
- Leadership experience and campus involvement.
Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and set realistic goals.
- Listening and empathy skills to support students' social and emotional wellness.
- Knowledge of study strategies, time management, and self-organization techniques.
Benefits
This is an on-campus position with flexible work hours, requiring 8 - 10 hours per week.
