Job Relationships
Reports to the Manager of Operations
Principal Responsibilities
- Greet patients and assist with changing into appropriate attire.
- Complete comprehensive pre-procedural assessments and document findings accurately.
- Administer pre-procedural orders including medications and IV therapy.
- Provide pre-operative education to patients and their families or support persons.
- Collaborate with members of the healthcare team regarding patient status and needs.
- Accompany patients to the procedure room and perform intraoperative nursing duties.
- Complete all required medical record documentation.
- Maintain sterile technique and supply procedural team members as needed.
- Administer conscious sedation per proceduralist order, continuously monitoring patient condition and vital signs.
- Follow all protocols for lab specimens and sponge/needle counts as outlined in the Policy & Procedure Manual.
- Transfer patients to the recovery area and provide thorough handoff reports.
- Order, receive, and stock all supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
- Prepare stretchers between cases and provide break and lunch relief as assigned.
- Monitor equipment and report repair needs to the supervisor.
- Assess, monitor, and support patients throughout recovery.
- Administer ordered medications and treatments.
- Complete all applicable recovery documentation and records.
- Prepare patients for discharge and provide home-care instructions and education materials.
- Discharge patients to a responsible adult as ordered by the proceduralist, in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety at all phases of care.
- Monitor vital signs and administer medications as ordered.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and provide support during critical situations.
- Collaborate with the proceduralist and healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities while adhering to Infection Control and Quality standards.
- Maintain accurate patient records, procedure logs, and required documentation.
- Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure phone calls as needed.
- Ensure facility cleanliness and organization at all times.
- Utilize Springfield Clinic computers, phones, and multiple clinical systems proficiently.
- Restock supplies daily.
- Check crash cart, defibrillator, and medications to ensure availability and correct functioning.
- Maintain a neat and orderly environment.
- Provide orientation and training to new department employees.
- Cross-train and work in other areas within the department as needed, applying appropriate nursing skills and techniques.
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident-reporting procedures.
- Adhere to OSHA guidelines and all required Springfield Clinic training.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and uphold the Springfield Clinic Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Three to five (3-5) years of nursing experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates
- Licensure as an RN in the State of Illinois.
- ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 90 days of employment.
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Working Environment Conditions
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
