About the Role

Join our team as an ASC Medical Assistant at our Ambulatory Surgical Center and play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care. You'll assist with pre- and post-operative care, take vital signs, manage records, and support daily clinical operations within our group practice of optometry and ophthalmology. Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative, and recovery periods under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.
  • Support nursing staff with patient transport and housekeeping duties, including changeover of pre-surgical, operating room, and post-surgical areas.
  • Provide administrative support, including chart maintenance, data entry, dictations, phone calls, inventory, and supply restocking.
  • Adhere to compliance standards, ASC philosophies, and state board regulations to assure quality of care.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies, medication administration procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Monitor ASC processes to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support.
  • Current certification from an accredited medical assisting program (e.g., CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods, stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, hearing, and close visual acuity.
  • Physical Requirements: Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Hazards: Exposure to anesthesia gases/agents, blood and bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, hazardous waste, moving parts of equipment, and sharp objects.
