About the role

This is a part-time, grant-funded position working with the ESL Department to enhance English Learner (EL) education at the middle school level. The role is paid at an hourly rate of $37.98, not to exceed 24 hours per week based on EL enrollment. This position is part of the State Teachers Retirement System.

Responsibilities

  • Design a program to enhance EL education at the middle school level in collaboration with the ESL Department.
  • Monitor EL data, support enrollment, administer EL identification screener, and assign EL interpreter support.
  • Screen new EL students, make classroom recommendations and placements based on data, and monitor student progress.
  • Administer state and district-mandated tests for EL students; work with building administrators to schedule and organize the OELPA annually.
  • Connect EL families with community resources.
  • Incorporate technology in classroom lessons.
  • Determine professional development needs aligned with the building's 90-day plan.
  • Provide monthly parent orientation for new families, monitor parent participation data, and encourage EL parent involvement in school events.
  • Collect data for grants, parent and student programs, and collaborate with building administrators to provide professional development for EL parents.
  • Provide timely updates of refugee student and parent data.
  • Maintain close contact with families through phone calls and written communications.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate necessary information to parents.
  • Coordinate scheduling of interpreters for IEP meetings and classroom support.
  • Communicate frequently with teachers, administrators, and other APS staff about the needs of EL parents and students.
  • Work closely with the campus principal to coordinate the refugee and ESL program, including obtaining approval from the principal and ESL Specialists for all aspects of the program.
  • Report to and carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or the ESL Learning Specialist.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Ohio teaching certificate/licensure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and students from diverse cultures.
  • Evidence of successful classroom teaching or counseling.
  • Demonstrated success with urban populations.

Pay

$37.98 per hour, not to exceed 24 hours per week.

Schedule

Part-time, as and when needed based on EL enrollment.
