About the Role
Provide targeted English language development (ELD) and inclusion support to non-native speakers. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum, ensuring equal access to academic content and fostering an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Inclusion & Co-Teaching: Partner with general education teachers to implement inclusive, push-in, or pull-out models tailored to individual student needs.
- Lesson Adaptation: Scaffold and modify mainstream classroom assignments, assessments, and learning materials to ensure they are accessible for English Language Learners.
- Assessment & Planning: Conduct language proficiency assessments, develop ILPs (Individual Learning Plans), and track progress toward language goals.
- Skill Development: Deliver high-quality instruction focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Family Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and ELL families, providing resources to help navigate the community and educational system.
- Advocacy & Culture: Champion the needs of ELLs, promoting a welcoming environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
- State teaching licensure with an ESL, ESOL, or TESOL endorsement.
Skills
- Strong understanding of language acquisition theories, co-teaching models, and cultural competency.
