Artist Humanities in Medicine
About the role
The artist will integrate the arts into various healthcare settings to enhance the patient, visitor, learner, and staff experience. This role requires collaboration with colleagues and clinical partners to create a unique healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Receive direction from Center for Humanities leadership or designee.
- Provide visual, literary, and/or performing arts interventions tailored to the interests and needs of patients, visitors, learners, and staff.
- Collaborate with colleagues and clinical partners to create an exceptional healthcare experience.
- Prepare reports on activities conducted.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, or Associate Degree plus 2 years’ experience, or High School diploma plus four years experience.
- Knowledge and Proficiency: Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in sharing the expression of chosen art form.
- Cultural Competencies and Communication Skills: Possesses interpersonal and interprofessional communication skills with a focus on customer service.
- Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Hand Hygiene and Infection Control: Knowledge of good hand hygiene and infection control practices.
- Privacy Policies: Knowledge of and adherence to privacy policies and HIPAA regulations governing confidentiality and security of protected health information.
- Familiarity with Hospital Environment: Some degree of familiarity with the hospital environment.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt and be flexible in a changing work environment.
- Time Management: Good time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Physical and Artistic Abilities: Ability to move throughout the hospital for several hours performing as a musician or working as an artist at the bedside.
Preferred
- Experience Teaching: Experience teaching adult and children at diverse levels of physical or artistic abilities.
- Counseling or Social Work: Counseling or social work experience.

Compensation Detail
$28.80 - $43.25 / hour
Schedule
Part Time Hours/Pay Period Supplemental, as needed based on staffing needs. Typically Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Weekend Schedule N/A
