About the role
The position involves teaching visual arts, crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art to pupils, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
Responsibilities
- Develops and administers school art curriculum consistent with Diocesan school goals and objectives.
- Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Convenes with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning while following approved curricula.
- Prepares objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the state, diocese, and school.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates those objectives to students.
- Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies. Prepares, organizes, and labels materials. Prepares the classroom for class activities. Creates displays of students' work.
- Guides students in learning from those activities. Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
- Organizes and leads activities, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling, to promote physical, mental, and social development.
- Reads books to entire classes or small groups. Uses computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
- Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress. Administers standardized ability and achievement tests and interprets results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
- Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
- Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
- Supervises, evaluates, and plans assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers. Involve parent volunteers and older students in children's activities in order to facilitate involvement in focused, complex play.
- Prepare and supervise students for Mass as well as other sacramental preparations.
Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in art, education, or a related field.
- Active Instructional certification preferred, otherwise be willing to work towards obtaining one.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Must comply with PA State clearance requirements.
- Willingness to respect the Catholic faith and comply with our code of conduct.
