Art Teacher

About the role

The Academy Charter Schools seeks an Art Teacher who understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, objectives, and policies. This position supports a challenging and engaging interdisciplinary curriculum in a technology-rich environment.

Responsibilities

• Create a rigorous and objective-driven arts program aligned with state standards
• Utilize technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication to enhance student engagement
• Eagerly learn and apply new technology tools in the classroom
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop interdisciplinary units that integrate grade-level content and skills through the arts
• Promote students' self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history
• Incorporate art history in a way that is engaging and meaningful to students and aligns with learning objectives
• Measure student achievement and progress using the school's formative and summative assessment tools
• Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goals
• Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
• Establish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolios

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• New York State Art Teacher Certification preferred
• Urban teaching experience with a record of high student achievement
• Broad knowledge of art and design concepts, a variety of media and materials, and a range of art history
• Experience working with a diverse student population
