Art Teacher
About the role
The Academy Charter Schools seeks an Art Teacher who understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, objectives, and policies. This position supports a challenging and engaging interdisciplinary curriculum in a technology-rich environment.
Responsibilities
- Create a rigorous and objective-driven arts program aligned with state standards
- Utilize technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication to enhance student engagement
- Eagerly learn and apply new technology tools in the classroom
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop interdisciplinary units that integrate grade-level content and skills through the arts
- Promote students' self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history
- Incorporate art history in a way that is engaging and meaningful to students and aligns with learning objectives
- Measure student achievement and progress using the school's formative and summative assessment tools
- Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goals
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
- Establish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolios
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- New York State Art Teacher Certification preferred
- Urban teaching experience with a record of high student achievement
- Broad knowledge of art and design concepts, a variety of media and materials, and a range of art history
- Experience working with a diverse student population
