Mission and Purpose
The teacher is responsible for implementing research-based instructional strategies to direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students. This involves creating a school and classroom culture that supports student learning. Instruction will be individualized based on students' unique learning styles, rates of learning, levels of maturity, and levels of achievement.
About the Role
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a Master's Degree preferred, and an Alaska Teacher Certificate or Type M Certificate. CTE and/or STEAM experience is preferred, along with knowledge and experience with ACE, PBIS, and Restorative Circles. Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience is also preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment.
- Employ appropriate methods of assessment to identify student proficiency levels and plan programs accordingly.
- Strive for harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
- Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
- Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal growth and the general promotion of the profession.
- Develop an awareness of local culture and provide bicultural or multicultural instruction.
- Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals as needed.
- Absorb and adhere to the code of ethics and professional teaching standards.
- Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal and maintain digital copies.
- Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

- Sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, and controls.
- Sometimes stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Talk and hear.
- Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Environmental Conditions
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, and controls.
- Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally climb or balance.
- Travel within and outside of the North Slope Borough School District.
- Willingness and ability to fly in small and large commuter planes.
- Work in a quiet environment.
