Art Outreach Instructor
About the role
This is an ongoing recruitment process, with no specific closing date. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities
- Teach specialized art and enrichment classes/workshops for all ages in both group and individual settings, including hosting classes at various district properties/offsite in the community for the District's Arts Outreach programming.
- Plan and instruct specialized art and enrichment classes for participants with varying levels of skill and ability.
- Adapt instruction techniques to meet the needs of participants.
- Maintain course records and rosters.
- Communicate with co-workers, patrons and coordinators effectively and efficiently.
- Host classes offsite in the community for the District's Arts Outreach programming.
- Present art to students by showing examples of selected art, provide students with tools and raw materials to produce their own art, teach students how to use tools and raw materials properly.
- Help promote arts and enrichment programming.
- Ensure that appropriate equipment/supplies are available for classes and events which may include transporting, setting up and taking down.
- Perform required cleaning.
- Inspect and report tool/equipment condition on a regular basis to ensure safe use.
- Monitor supply inventory and ensure responsible use of supplies to prevent waste.
- Be prepared, creative and energized when teaching.
- Provide a safe learning environment and manage the classroom effectively; keep students in line of vision at all times/never turn back on class.
- Know and follow all facility safety protocols.
- Enforce safety and program rules, policies, and regulations.
- Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administer first aid as needed.
- Completes Accident/Incident report.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Correct or inform supervisor of any facility hazards; communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- Travel to instruct and lead art and enrichment classes offsite.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for all scheduled and published shifts if unable to work.
Requirements
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have at least two (2) years of professional art and/or enrichment teaching experience.
- Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment.
- Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of teaching and learning techniques and methodologies.
- Knowledgeable of positive interaction techniques with children students and their parents, adult and senior students, and staff.
- Ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults.
- Able to work with students in a constructive and caring manner while creating unique and fun art projects and teaching safety in the classroom.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skills
- Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to demonstrate and perform the techniques unique to varying art disciplines.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects.
- The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, email, and through face-to-face communication is needed.

About Us

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties.
