About the role

The Art Assistant in Printmaking assists the printmaking and design professor with class activities and the day-to-day operations of the printmaking shop and design facilities. They oversee safe student use of equipment in the printmaking studio during classes and on nights and weekends. This includes ensuring the safe use of the presses, acids, solvents, shears, and other equipment, providing students with extensive instruction on how to use the equipment safely and efficiently. They perform work in the maintenance, inventory, and procurement of equipment and supplies, and keep the printmaking studio and design facilities clean and well ordered.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in demonstrations of technical processes including mixing ink and use of tools and presses when asked by the professor
  • Oversee safe student use of equipment in the printmaking studio during classes and on nights and weekends
  • Maintain equipment and materials, order supplies, perform maintenance on the printing presses and digital printers, and clean the printmaking shop as necessary
  • Coordinate with facilities staff about maintenance issues that need to be addressed
  • Prepare materials for hazardous waste pickup
  • Assist in other departmental duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art
  • Familiarity with a range of printmaking-related equipment and media, and an understanding of equipment and material safety
  • Dependable, strong work ethic, and good communication skills

Qualifications

  • Well versed in intaglio, lithography, relief, silkscreen and/or digital printing

Skills

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Physical stamina and ability to move equipment around

Benefits

This is a 25-hour per week, limited benefits-eligible position. Full-time and part-time members of the faculty and staff are eligible for tuition remission for themselves. Additionally, full-time members of the faculty and staff are eligible for tuition remission for their spouse/spousal equivalent and are eligible for various tuition programs for their children. The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

Pay

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. The salary range is $17.16-$21.45 per hour.

Schedule

This position is a staff, non-exempt, 25-hour per week, 9 month, limited benefits eligible position. It is ideally beginning in August 2026 and continuing through early May 2027. There is a possibility of renewal for a second year (contingent upon favorable evaluations).
