About the Role

This position is an Armed Security Officer role within a high-level security contract at a state courthouse. Security Officers perform a variety of duties to protect the client's staff, visitors, and property from injury, harassment, damage, and theft. This role is part of a team of officers providing security services.

  • Keep people in halls and waiting rooms calm and orderly by providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a presence in the building reception area.
  • Periodically sweep the building on foot to monitor for suspicious activity.
  • Remotely monitor security surveillance cameras for activity.
  • Provide off-site security to VIPs as needed.
  • Assist courtroom staff and visiting personnel with security concerns, including evaluating potential risks and recommending appropriate action.
  • Stand guard near hall and courtroom entrances to prevent unauthorized access to secure or private areas.
  • Assist in case of an emergency, including providing first aid and handling unruly individuals in a calm and professional manner.
  • Occasionally assist with courtroom security duties as needed.

Armed security officers at this contract do not detain individuals unless directed to do so by the proper officials.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of verifiable prior experience in law enforcement.
  • At least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
  • Licensed CPL or LEOSA cardholder.
  • Must pass an MCOLES firearm qualification and defensive tactics training at the time of hire.
  • Must pass a written psychological evaluation at the time of hire.
  • Must pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
  • No felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor convictions related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk (including up and down stairs) for 8-12 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift at least 70 lbs.
  • Ability to see clearly at least 20 feet away (with glasses or contact lenses if necessary).
  • Ability to hear conversations in loud environments, either in-person or via radio.
  • Ability to use a smart mobile phone or computer to check emails and complete online training.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent personal integrity and a positive attitude.
  • Must complete required trainings on time and adhere to all client and company policies.

Note: Employees previously removed from a contract or on disciplinary probation at the time of separation will not be considered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • College Degree (optional).
  • Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) (required).
  • LEOSA Credential (required).

Uniform

The dress code for this contract includes:

  • Navy dress pants, navy blazer, and tie (provided by the company).
  • White button-down shirt (provided by the company).
  • Black belt (provided by the company).
  • Black dress shoes or loafers (employee-provided; open-toed shoes not permitted).

Additional uniform pieces will be issued as needed.

Pay

$22.66/hour (set by contract, non-negotiable).

Schedule

Various days (Monday - Friday), 1st shifts (0700-1700), with evening availability.
