About the role

The Armed Security Officer will strive to provide a safe and secure campus environment for students, staff, and visitors. This uniformed position will serve as a deterrent to unsafe behaviors. Provide prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall assistance to the school campus community
  • Aid in restraining, apprehending, and escorting disruptive or arrested individuals
  • Patrol all exterior and interior areas of the campus while ensuring direct interaction with students and district personnel within the assigned jurisdiction
  • Resolve conflict or confrontation between students, district personnel, visitors, or other persons on the assigned campus
  • Report all incidents or criminal activity immediately to the supervisor
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Board of Trustees, the district, and the Police and Security Department. Adhere to existing district and department grooming standards and dress policies at all times for uniformed personnel
  • Attend all scheduled meetings as required by the supervisor

Requirements

  • Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
  • Valid Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE)
  • Preferably honorably retired as a Texas peace officer within the preceding two (2) years
  • Willing to undergo a criminal background check, psychological exam, medical exam, and drug screening
  • Demonstrate firearm proficiency by passing the Dallas ISD pistol qualification course
  • Ability to perform responsibilities with minimum supervision
  • Composure to de-escalate conflict situations
  • Knowledge of relevant security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school security operations for the protection of people, data and property
  • Competency to deal sensitively and fairly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively interface with students, parents, and all levels of District personnel in writing and verbally

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a preferred

Skills

  • Organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills are required to achieve the goals of the position
  • Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress

Minimum Salary: $60,949.00
Median Salary: $71,702
