About the Role

This armed position is under the direct supervision of the Manager for an assigned high-profile site and performs a variety of security-related duties. In this role, you will observe and report activities and incidents at assigned locations, ensuring the security and safety of client property, visitors, and personnel. As an armed officer, you may respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force, including armed response as dictated by the situation and protocol. You will assist in preserving order, enforce regulations, control access to the client site, monitor entrances and exits, and prevent unapproved or unlawful entry. Some assignments may involve patrolling the site on foot or in a vehicle, checking for unsafe conditions, and protecting evidence or scenes of incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Control access to client site or facility through the admittance process; prevent unauthorized access, theft, or destruction of physical assets; assist visitors with legitimate entry needs; screen visitors and employees efficiently.
  • Respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force, including armed response, following established protocols and training.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of assigned protective equipment, restraint devices, and weapons.
  • Provide courteous, respectful, and professional interactions with all client employees and visitors to foster a positive image of the client and its security department.
  • Communicate openly and honestly in all situations; provide authorized information about the site and surrounding area as requested.
  • Monitor entrances and exits to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; control the movement of people and vehicles, operate gates, and examine vehicle contents.
  • Patrol assigned site on foot or in a vehicle; check for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, and unauthorized persons.
  • Protect evidence or scenes of incidents during accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; set up barriers and provide direction.
  • Prepare logs or reports as required; write reports or enter information using standard grammar and computer systems.
  • Observe and report incidents or suspicious activity to appropriate authorities, including client representatives, company management, or public safety officials.
  • Respond to incidents such as fire, medical emergencies, bomb threats, flooding, hazardous materials, and inclement weather following established procedures.
  • Carry out additional tasks and duties as required for the assigned site.

Requirements

  • Must meet and continue to meet all applicable state, county, and municipal licensing and permit requirements for armed security work, including specific protective device and weapons qualifications.
  • Must meet and maintain certification requirements for Basic Life Support CPR/AED and First Aid from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate effectively with employees and clients.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, logs, and reports.
  • Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional composure in unusual circumstances.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to provide high-quality customer service.
  • Courteous telephone manner and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively across diverse cultures and social levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Proficiency with computers and necessary software typically used in the department.

Qualifications

  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background checks, controlled substance testing, and may need to meet physical examination requirements per assignment.
  • U.S. citizenship preferred.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to read, comprehend, and compose coherent written reports.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Armed Security or Law Enforcement experience OR two (2) years of honorable service with the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Ability to pass a contract-required medical exam, physical exertion test, and operate a firearm with the required level of accuracy.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Working Environment

  • Requires the physical and mental capacity to perform all essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure when dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public, occasionally under urgent or high-pressure conditions.
  • May be exposed to sensitive and confidential information.
  • May encounter stressful situations, such as challenging individuals in or approaching unauthorized areas.
  • Required to use rapid and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force.
  • May be required to work overtime without advance notice.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for up to 12 hours per day; may involve climbing stairs, walking on inclines, or uneven terrain.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations, including pursuing, detaining, and engaging individuals.
  • Frequent lifting and/or occasional lifting/moving of up to 40 pounds.
  • Close and distance vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to use a vehicle (e.g., cars, trucks, electric carts, bicycles) in the performance of duties.
  • May be required to perform stressful physical activity on occasion.
  • Depending on assignment, may be exposed to inclement weather or required to work in environments that necessitate the use of protective gear.
  • Works in environments requiring the carrying of authorized weapons and ammunition, use of protective gear, and awareness of personal safety and the safety of others.

Preference will be given to Calista shareholders and their descendants, spouses of Calista shareholders, and shareholders of other corporations created pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, in accordance with Title 43 U.S. Code 1626(g).
