Location & Commitments

Full Time/Part Time/Temporary/Supplemental roles based at our Greenville location, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Early and late hours required. Overtime may be required to ensure patients are cared for, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.

Reports to Clinical or Operations Manager; Director of Operations. Supervises clinical staff.

Typical Physical Demands

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Involves standing and walking.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
• Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

Typical Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

About The Role

Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following demonstration of working knowledge of all facets of the role, relevant regulations, and organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Performs under the direction of a provider and within the framework of the office policies and procedures. Provides direct patient care and treats patients in the office as directed by Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse, or Supervising Manager.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers during office visits, physical exams, and in-office procedures.
• Prep exam rooms for clinical procedures and assist practitioners with patient care.
• Perform accurate measurement of vital signs, including orthostatic blood pressure, temperature, pulse, body weight, height, and complete appropriate health history questions.
• Record medications, allergies, pertinent lab work, pharmacy, and PCP in the EMR.
• Perform ear lavage, EKG, wound care/dressing changes, IRIS, catheterizations/bladder catheterizations, and UNNA boot application.
• Assist with Pap smear and related lab work.
• Provide patient education.
• Administer injections and manage immunizations.
• Handle prior authorizations, population health, and care gap closure.
• Follow standing orders as directed by department policies (e.g., UA, Flu, Strep tests).
• Prepare and administer medicines via PO, intramuscular, intradermal, intravenous, or subcutaneous route as per provider order.
• Order, stock, and maintain exam rooms and clinic areas.
• Notify patients of lab results.
• Answer phone calls and refill medications at the direction of the physician.
• Make referrals to other departments and clinics to coordinate patient care.
• Disinfect exam rooms between patients.
• Perform delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective manner according to Policy and Procedures.
• Start, maintain, and disconnect IVs as per physician or mid-level provider order.
• Act as station floater, including communicating panic lab values to care team, assisting with same-day requests, and desktop management for station providers and staff.
• Serve as Station Supervisor for multiple stations routinely.

Advanced Responsibilities

• Perform provider assistant role for multiple providers interchangeably.
• Act as multi-station floater, including communicating panic lab values to care team, assisting with same-day requests, and desktop management for providers and staff in all stations.
• Precept new hires and attest to competencies of department staff.
• Back up to QMS Clinical Manager and/or Provider Scribe.
• Back up to IM Operations Manager.

Other Duties

• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Keep management informed of high-risk situations.
• Demonstrate appropriate use in cleaning of equipment.
• Maintain licensure in accordance with North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Practice infection control, following OSHA guidelines and office policy.
• Maintain CPR certification.
• Attend fire safety classes, clinical meetings, compliance, and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East.
• Adhere to department and office policies.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Licensure: Must be registered with NCBON and in good standing.
• Experience in electronic medical records (EMR/HER) software required.
• Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate and interact professionally with others.
• Ability to actively listen.
• Ability to observe and draft a narrative account of events accurately and cogently, in grammatically correct English.
• Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written text.
