About the role

The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Store Leadership team at Ross, a leading off-price retail chain. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store and manages the general operations and supervision of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by understanding and practicing safe behaviors, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Ensure customer safety by preventing accidents, reporting incidents, and following emergency procedures. Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using Company recognition programs.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
  • Manage merchandise presentation, keep areas clean and merchandised to standard, remove clutter, and ensure safe egress to emergency exits. Perform daily trash removal.
  • Ensure proper recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards. Process all merchandise with urgency, handle non-merchandise inbound deliveries, and help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Execute Company Best Practices to maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches. Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures.
  • Manage the front-end area, ensuring associates execute to Company standards, maintain pace and energy, and manage the line to expedite customer wait time. Control break schedules, ensure proper supplies and recovery, and teach the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
  • Maintain the maintenance and cleanliness of fitting rooms, audit garment tags, and ensure go-back compliance throughout the day. Ensure all merchandise returned to the sales floor is ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as needed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as conducting cash pulls and bank deposits, managing Front End control, and ensuring proper payroll administration.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
