About the role

The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Store Leadership team at Ross, a leading off-price retail chain. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store and manages the general operations and supervision of the store when acting as the Manager on Duty.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by practicing safe behaviors and immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Ensure the security of the building, including controlling access points, performing EAS device checks, managing cash office security, and handling armored carrier pickups.
  • Manage customer safety by preventing accidents, reporting incidents, and executing emergency procedures. Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms.
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
  • Ensure the store is clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard, removing clutter and ensuring safe egress to emergency exits.
  • Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches when working.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures.
  • Manage the fitting rooms, ensuring their maintenance and cleanliness, and oversee the proper handling of returns and refunds.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Store Manager, including cash pulls, bank deposits, and payroll administration.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
