About the role
The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within Ross, a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store, manages associates, and ensures a safe, secure, and customer-friendly environment.
Essential Functions
- Maintain a safe and secure shopping environment by immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Manage security of the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pickups, and register area.
- Ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times.
- Execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
Customer Service
- Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize associates using Company recognition programs.
General Merchandising
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per Company best practice.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handle all merchandise and non-merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Keep all areas of the store clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.
- Manage floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
- Perform re-wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
- Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
- Conduct "Code 50" package inspections.
- Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
Front End Supervision and Operations
- Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches when working.
- Ensure associates execute to Company standards at the Front End.
- Manage the line to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures.
- Control Retail Associates' break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
- Ensure go backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach all associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, Men's/Women's 4-way features, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
- Maintain and clean the Fitting Rooms.
- Auditing garment tags and ensuring compliance with Company policy.
- Ensuring go-back compliance throughout the day.
Administrative Duties
- Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted to Company policy.
- Manage Front End control when needed.
- Understand and adhere to policies and procedures related to refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash in safe, register Paid Outs/Ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.
- Administer payroll administration including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and Payroll reporting as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
- Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
