About the role
The Area Supervisor is primarily responsible for a designated area in which they will coach field employee performance through site observations, build positive client relationships, oversee pre-construction planning and management, as well as promote the safety and quality standards of the organization, while acting in accordance with company values, vision and mission.
Responsibilities
- Manages a team of outside field personnel
- Direct work to at least two or more other full-time employees
- Has the authority to hire and fire other employees
- Establish and build relationships with direct reports through monthly job site visits
- Responsible for conducting annual performance reviews and supporting employee development
- Daily travel to job site locations; observations and associated reporting based on designated area
- Build positive client, State DOT and Local Municipal relations within designated area
- Responsible for pre-construction management process including client meetings, internal job leads meetings and other communication as required
- Serve as subject matter expert for internal office staff with regards to order requirements such as personnel and equipment needs
- Meet with Field Manager on daily/weekly basis to review Crew Leaders's and Advanced Crew Leader's performance and associated metrics
- Complete and submit daily reporting by way of work zone observations
- Assist the safety department with the investigation of incidents when requested
- Responsible for fleet telematics and related driver coaching
- Professionally represent the organization to clients, employees and the public
- Submission of HR requests and subsequent delivery of related discipline, in accordance with company guidelines and established timelines
- Work collaboratively and communicate frequently with other departments
- Make recommendations to Field Manager for field staff promotions as needed
- Conduct, attend and participate in various department meetings as necessary
- Conduct random quarterly, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug tests
- Successful completion of Area Supervisor Job Training Program and required continuing education

- Communicate effectively with co-workers and clients, work with accuracy, efficiency and close attention to detail

- Exercise initiative to learn new skills and tasks
- Perform other duties and functions as required
Qualifications
- Must pass Work Zone Leadership course with 80% or higher
- Maintain valid internal training certifications through Flagger Force Academy
- Must hold all required Department of Transportation qualifications for assigned territory
- Valid driver's license in accordance with Flagger Force motor vehicle record standards
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Developed leadership skills including conflict resolution, and ability to coach and train people and teams
- Ability to positively influence people and situations in a fast-paced environment and build trust and support optimal outcomes
- Ability to adapt quickly and manage time effectively
- Ability to manage high stress scenarios and environments
- Proficient computer literacy; experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Steel toed boots or the ability to obtain prior to employment
Preferred Experience
- One (1)+ year(s) experience with Flagger Force and/or similar traffic control knowledge
- One (1)+ year(s) experience with state and federal traffic control guidelines (i.e., Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices)
- Demonstrates leadership qualities in previous Flagger Force positions
- Advanced Crew Leader knowledge
