Area Superintendent
About the role
Hensel Phelps is a leading general contractor founded in 1937. They specialize in various sectors including aviation, government, commercial, transportation, healthcare, and more. The Area Superintendent (AS) oversees specific areas of projects, ensuring schedules, budgets, safety, quality, and personnel development.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, supervise, and mentor the workforce in their area.
- Organize and plan field construction work collaboratively with trade partners.
- Participate in weekly schedule and management meetings with trade partners.
- Promote and enforce the site-specific safety plan and safety principles.
- Create AHAs/STAs with foremen for all self-performed work and review AHAs for trade partners.
- Maintain the four-week schedule for their area to ensure timely project completion.
- Keep accurate cost and production records.
- Develop and maintain material handling and site utilization plans.
- Coordinate with project engineers and office engineers on material needs, RFIs, etc.
- Ensure materials are properly inspected for quantity and quality and signed by the administrator.
- Establish high-quality standards for the company and trade partners.
- Coordinate the punch list process for owner acceptance at project turnover.
- Develop and maintain relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners.
- Participate in project coordination meetings to maintain pre-planning engagement and scheduling.
- Drive issue resolution with BIM and VDC engineers to keep the submittal process on schedule.
Requirements
- A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.
- Minimum of 5-6 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel-based templates, Prolog, Primavera, and the AutoDesk Suite.
- Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing reading.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
Benefits
- Direct Compensation: Base Salary Range: $92,910 - $102,690, Annually.
- Cell Phone Reimbursement: $900.00, Annually.
- Vehicle Allowance: $8,400.00, Annually.
- Performance Bonus: 0-10% of base salary, Annually.
- Total Direct Compensation Range: $102,210.00 - $111,990.00, Annually.
- Retirement Account Contribution: 15% of base salary after one year of employment.

- Dental and Vision Insurance: Employee-paid enrollment.
- Paid Time Off: Beginning upon hire.
