About the role
HDR is seeking a Power Delivery Leader who is passionate about the Power Industry to grow and manage our electric transmission, substation, and distribution teams across the PA/OH/WV/DE area. This position, based in our Philadelphia, PA office, is perfect for a leader who is passionate about energizing teams, motivated by shaping team culture, and driving strategy for growth. You will lead teams and a portfolio of technical power delivery services, including engineering for substations, system protection, distribution, and transmission.
Power Delivery is comprised of electric Substation, Transmission, and Distribution engineers and designers. In this role, you will manage each of these teams and associated staff, including key metrics. You will collaborate with technical Power Delivery (Electric T&D) business classes and operations to shape and grow a successful team. You will establish, develop, and maintain strong client relationships using an in-depth understanding of the client’s business objectives. The Power Delivery Leader will focus on delivering project execution that exceeds client expectations by leveraging internal resources and growing teams in the PA/OH/WV area. You will also manage individual engineering projects and/or perform as a Design Lead within the program.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise project execution teams.
- Drive and grow HDR’s portfolio of Power Delivery services for assigned large-scale Power Delivery clients, specifically Investor-Owned Utilities.
- Establish HDR as a preferred provider of Power Delivery services by developing and maintaining strong relationships with large-scale Power Delivery clients.
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise for Power Delivery marketing/proposal efforts, communications, and client development with business, operations, marketing, and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth, and profitability.
- Provide technical leadership and project management oversight to ensure projects have appropriate staff assigned and that the finished product meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Work with all HDR resources to build capabilities through recruitment and staff training, including vetting discipline leads, project leads, subject matter experts, and project teams in multiple offices to support the needs and growth of the program.
- Identify and mitigate project execution risks (e.g., contract terms, staffing, project financials, change orders, schedules, technical expertise, safety, and quality) associated with large-scale Power Delivery clients.
- Encourage and participate in business and community activities as a representative of HDR.
- Encourage and participate in IEEE standards development.
- Encourage and participate in emerging technologies, such as IEC-61850, smart drawings, and process automation.
- Serve as client liaison in collaboration with business development leaders.
- Travel to offices to meet with staff, visit project sites, and/or attend client meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field (Engineering degree is required).
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field is a plus.
- PE license is preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of Power Delivery or Transmission and Distribution (T&D) design experience.
- Technical capability to provide quality control reviews for engineering design packages relative to candidate expertise.
- Excellent client management skills, marketing, and business development skills, in addition to contacts/relationships with large-scale Power Delivery clients.
- Proven experience scoping projects, managing projects, managing client relationships, proposal development, and business development.
- Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical leads, and project staff.
- Committed to safety, quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Experience with managing multiple client relationships throughout the US is preferred.
- Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts, and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm is preferred.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 7 years of related experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of project management experience.
- Ability to interact with various design teams, with excellent organizational, project management, and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
