Area Manager, Early Career - (2027) - Michigan

This is a full-time, early career position located within one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations or other operations buildings.

About the role

Amazon is seeking customer-focused individuals to lead a team of hourly employees across our Operations network. As an Area Manager, you will engage, lead, and develop your team in a warehouse environment, focusing on motivating, mentoring, and managing your team to meet goals. Amazon provides extensive training and development to become an exceptional people leader. You will ensure your team has all the tools needed to succeed while maintaining high levels of safety, quality, attendance, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Support, mentor, and motivate 50-100 direct report Amazon Associates.
• Work independently and operate in an autonomous environment.
• Stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours.
• Regularly work shift patterns that include nights, weekends, and/or holidays based on business needs (most follow a fixed 4-day work week with 3 days off).
• Oversee truck deliveries, handle and sort packages using pallet jacks, operate PIT equipment (at applicable facilities), and step in as needed.
• Work in an environment where the noise level varies.
• Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
• Climb and descend stairs (when applicable).

A day in the life

Start of Shift: Set the Tone

• Get a handoff from the outgoing manager and review what's carrying over.
• Lead a team huddle to align on goals, safety priorities, and key focus areas.
• Confirm your team is in place and ready before operations begin.

Middle of Shift: Lead from the Floor

• Walk the floor regularly to stay connected to your team and spot issues early.
• Drive results across safety, quality, and productivity, balancing all three in real time.
• Adjust staffing and resources as volume and priorities shift throughout the day.
• Coach and develop team members, respond to challenges, and partner with support teams to remove roadblocks.
• Keep peers and leadership informed on shift progress and flag risks.

End of Shift: Close Strong

• Do a final walkthrough to ensure your area is clean and organized for the next team.
• Review shift performance data and capture what went well and what to improve.
• Hand off to the incoming manager with clear priorities and next steps.
• Wrap up any remaining administrative tasks.

Requirements

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a bachelor’s or master’s degree (all degree requirements must be met before your first day).

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program for Supply Chain, Business/Management, Engineering, or another related field.

Pay

• USA, MI, BAD AXE: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Caledonia: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Detroit: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Grand Rapids: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Lansing: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Livonia: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Pontiac: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Saginaw: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MI, Wixom: $65,200.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually

Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.

Schedule

• Shifts last up to 12 hours and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Most shifts follow a fixed 4-day work week with 3 days off.
