About the role

The Area Manager manages activities of an assigned department within the distribution center and is accountable for delivering required results in accordance with established standards and within budgetary constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Productivity and Results
    • Provides daily direction to Area Supervisors to accomplish operating results.
    • Delivers results in accordance with established productivity standards and business unit goals.
    • Applies motivational and employee relation techniques to maintain an engaged and productive work group.
    • Schedules and deploys assigned personnel to achieve performance goals.
    • Troubleshoots workflow disruptions and takes corrective action.
  • Staffing and Staff Development
    • Recruits quality personnel to maintain optimal staffing levels.
    • Directs supervisors to ensure proper orientation and training of all staff.
    • Conducts performance reviews and sets goals and development plans for departmental personnel.
    • Administers corrective action as required in accordance with policy.
    • Establishes and maintains professional relations with employees to ensure high engagement.
  • Operational Support and Control
    • Develops, recommends, or implements enhancements to processes, systems, policies, and procedures to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer service.
    • Works with maintenance and support teams to maintain equipment in optimal working order.
    • Reconciles payroll and attendance records in compliance with policies and payroll standards.
    • Reviews accuracy of methods and productivity standards and recommends adjustments.
    • Provides input to the annual budgeting process.
  • Safety and Quality of Results
    • Enforces safety policies and procedures.
    • Conducts safety training as necessary and according to established schedules.
    • Establishes and enforces checks of process quality to ensure compliance with standards.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Experience in a high-volume, automated, multi-shift distribution center.
  • Experience in a facility using conveyors, RF scanning, and pick-to-ship container methods preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of inventory control and traffic management.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Windows; ability to learn in-house software applications.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate employees through guidance, training, and counsel.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced environment with standing on concrete floors up to 8 hours per day.
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Functional vision and hearing required.
  • Heavy lifting up to 70 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 200 lbs.
